Pop-star Christina Aguilera rose to fame in the late 1990s with her hit song, “Genie in a Bottle,” which eventually became the United State’s top-selling single of 1999.  The song was a fun up-tempo pop song which became extremely popular among young audiences.  However, as Aguilera’s career continued, the content of her song’s matured. In the fall of 2012, Aguilera released a single, “Beautiful,” which was dedicated to helping people realize their inner beauty.  The song became an anthem for those who had been ostracized and bullied and “Beautiful,” eventually sold more than one million copies and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Now, more than a decade after the song’s release, its message still holds true. However, there are many people who still continue to criticize and torment others based on how they appear.  Unfortunately, even Aguilera, with her Grammy award winning ode to all things beautiful, isn’t exempt from judgement.  Within the last year, Aguilera has been spotted several times without makeup, and the public’s responses to the bare-faced “Beautiful” singer have been interesting.  Upon seeing pictures of a makeup free Aguilera walking through LAX airport fans quickly began to share their opinions.  One fan was so shocked by Aguilera’s appearance that they simply could not believe that it was actually her in the photograph, another fan even declared that Aguilera was “butt ugly.”

But even in the face of internet opposition, several fans proudly fought against the opinion that Aguilera was simply “not a pretty girl, no matter what she does with her face.”  The idea that Aguilera looked even “better” and “much younger” without makeup seemed to override the negative comments.  Many people even said that they preferred her with a natural look and wish she would wear it more often.  However, no comment was truer than one that simply stated “She is beautiful no matter what they say”, proving that Aguilera’s message of infinite beauty is more powerful than messages of hate.
