Norma John to represent Finland at Eurovision 2017 with "Blackbird"

Norma John will represent Finland at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest, with their song “Blackbird”. The duo won Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2017 – the National final of Finland and will be heading to Kyiv in May. They competed against nine other artists, with an international jury and public vote deciding the winner. Norma John won both votes, finishing with 182 points, 37 points ahead of second place Zühlke.

Finland last won the competition in 2006 when Lordi took home the crown with “Hard Rock Hallelujah”. After failing to qualify in the last two years, they will be hoping for success this year with Norma John. The duo consist of two friends Lasse Piirainen and Leena Tirronen, who wrote their song “Blackbird” for the competition.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2017 is set to be a competitive year once again. It will take place in Kyiv, Ukraine after Jamala won with “1944” last year.

These are the acts who have been announced so far: Cyprus’ Hovig, The Netherlands’ O’G3NE, Belgium’s Blanche, Macedonia’s Jana Burceska, and Azerbaijan’s DiHaj. As well as this, also announced are: Ireland’s Brendan Murray, Austria’s Nathan TrentAlbania’s Lindita, Armenia’s Artsvik, and Montenegro’s Slavko Kalezic. Furthermore, we can look forward to seeing: Greece’s Demy, Georgia’s Tako Gachechiladze, Belarus’s Navi and The United Kingdom’s Lucie Jones.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2017 semi-finals will take place on 9 May 2017 and 11 May 2017, with the grand final expected to take place on 13 May 2017.
