A British Dish
Before 2017, Ed Sheeran didn’t pay much attention to his diet. He told India Today “my diet was pizza and beer, but because I was doing two hours a night, I was really in shape.”
But after his Divide tour ended and he had a few months of rest, this quickly caught up with Ed. “I stopped touring and carried on my diet of pizza and beer. Suddenly, I didn’t fit in anything. I was like, all my clothes have shrunk. I didn’t realize how active I was on tour”, he told the media outlet.
In line with this, Ed has previously told Oprah that his favorite comfort food is ‘bangers and mash’. Speaking to the talk show host in 2017, he said:
“It’s basically real sausages – not boiled pink hot dogs – with mashed potatoes and onion gravy. Whenever I go home, my mom makes it for me. If she thinks I haven’t been eating, she’ll put 15 sausages in the dish instead of the 3 it calls for”.
Heinz Tomato Ketchup
So that’s pizza, beer, sausage, mash, and gravy on Ed’s weekly shopping list. What else?
It’s a well-known fact that Ed Sheeran LOVES Heinz Tomato Ketchup. He even has a tattoo of the condiments label on his left arm.
There’s also widespread speculation that Ed makes key members of his entourage carry spare bottles of the red sauce wherever they go. It’s reported that Ed is so sick of fancy restaurants not serving Heinz Ketchup that he’s decided to take matters into his own hands.
In recent months the relationship between Ed and Heinz reached an all-time high when Ed made a cameo in a Heinz commercial. The collaboration came about after Ed tagged Heinz in an Instagram post. Posted on April 3rd, 2019, Ed captioned the post:
“Yo @heinz I have an idea for a tv ad if you wanna do one, if not I won’t be offended, I could never be mad at you. Slide in my DMs or have your people call my people. Lots of love, your biggest fan x”
Less than one month later, Ed posted another Instagram photo declaring that his dream had come true. The photo shows Ed positioned behind a laptop which has an ‘Ed x Heinz’ presentation on the screen.
The ad aired on Heinz’ YouTube channel on 17thJune 2019 and has since garnered over 6 million views. The ad follows Ed as he dines at a luxury restaurant, only to be dismayed when his meal doesn’t come with ketchup. Thankfully, Ed came prepared. He whips a bottle of ketchup out of his bag and proceeds to slather it over his food, much to the restaurant workers’ dismay.
Nando’s Skank
It’s not an understatement to say that Ed Sheeran is one of the busiest men on the planet. So when he’s on the move or doesn’t have time to cook for himself there’s only one thing for it… Nando’s!
Back in 2010, Ed featured in a freestyle skit with fellow British singer, Example. Featuring lyrics such as “I want some f*cking Nando’s. Wanna eat up with chicken and chips”, the rap is about the pair’s love for the South African chicken outlet.
